In 1769 Father Serra established San Diego de Acala. That mission was the first mission and church built. Neophytes lived in the mission also. One year before the mission was built, Russians were seal hunting. So the King of Spain sent New Spain (Mexico) to make settlements to stop the Russians.
In 1775 Indians attacked the mission and it caught on fire. Then the Neophytes helped the mission citizens rebuild it. In 1832 about a thousand neophytes were there, in the same year 158,675 crops were harvested 18,200 livestock were raised the same year.
The mission today is very strong, a little damaged, and the walls are a little chipped. One day I want to go to San Diego de Acala with my family.
